June 4, 2017 - Day 3 - Poipu Beach and Waimea Canyon
June 4, 2017
Good thing we are still on California time. It's working in our favor. No need to set the alarm clock, we automatically wake up at the crack of dawn.
First on the agenda this morning is Sunday Church service. The local Catholic Church was 3 miles away. The church was small and most of the congregation were tourists. It was very open with huge sliding doors on both sides of the church that allow the breeze to come in to cool us down. At the end of the service the priest asked all the June birthdays to come up for a blessing. Of course Mikey didn't hesitate and walked right up.
The teens were hungry after service so we stopped by L & L Hawaiian BBQ (there's not much choice of food on Kauai). The rest of the gang went back to the house for leftovers.
Our plans continue to change. After FaceTime with Rebecca last Friday, her kids (Jillian and Sam) felt bummed that they were missing all the fun. The Chins had plans to fly out to Oahu on June 13. I jokingly said that she can send the kids out early and hang out with their cousins. And then we said "Why not?" After figuring out the logistics, the two kids were due to arrive today at 12:30 pm. (that's faster shipping that Amazon Prime). Since David had to go to the airport to pick up the kids, we all decided to head out to Poipu Beach to meet up.
We all know that the beach is a fun place to hang out but we all needed to be reminded that it's also a very dangerous place as well. Four of the young teens swam off without telling an adult where they were heading. The lifeguards let David use binoculars to help locate them. The lifeguards, with their experience, pointed David in the direction where they think young teens would hangout. Sure enough, they were at a nearby island. What a relief!
I missed all the excitement at the beach. I volunteered to drive the elders to Waimea Canyon for site seeing. It was a beautiful drive up to the canyon. Pictures can't do it justice.
It's nice to come home after a long day to a home cooked meal. Thanks to Mom, Tiffanie, and Co Nhung for stepping up to cook. We enjoyed roll your own Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls) for dinner. The kids had Panda Express, one of their favorites.
