June 8, 2017 - Day #7 Mahalo Kauai, Aloha Oahu
June 8, 2017
We stayed up late last night cleaning up the house, doing laundry, and packing. Check out is at 10am so we had time to have breakfast and last minute packing. The cars were packed and loaded and we rolled out of the driveway right at 10am. It took 2 hours to get to Lihue Airport due to traffic. David, Moses, and I dropped everyone and the luggage at the airport and we returned the cars. All 21 of us were on the same flight to Honolulu.
Upon arrival, we said goodbye to Hanh's family, they're staying near Waikiki. Moses' family, they're staying with Adriane's sister who lives in Oahu. After picking up the rental minivans, David and I went back to the airport to pick up everyone else. David took the kids straight to the rental house in Kailua while I took the adults and Jillian to Costco. Almost $500 later we made our way to Kailua. David already called to warn us that the house is rundown and smells bad. Coming from a luxurious place to a dive is hard. David got in touch with the management to voice his complaint. In the meantime, we didn't want to dwell our house problems...the groceries were unloaded and we went straight to the downtown Kailua Night Market. The night market had live music and a lot of choices of food. We met up with Hanh's family at the market as well. Mikey wanted a bowl of Bun Bo Hue and I had a bowl of Pho. The rest of the group had Poke and burgers. To cleanse our palates, we all had locally made popsicles and ice cream sold at the Night Market. It was early still (7:30pm), David thought it would be a great idea to go to Waikiki to walk around. With traffic, it took about 40 mins to get there. The boys went into the first T shirt shop they saw and I walked out $100 poorer. The kids were allowed to venture off on their own but somehow they always found and followed us. I want to believe that it's because they want to be around us but most likely they are just following the money. We all left around 11pm, we were all getting tired...we still have to figure out room assignments at home. Ugh...
