July 1, 2017 - Day #29 Street food hits and misses

July 1, 2017

We said goodbye to Steven, Carter, and Audrey this afternoon.  They checked out of the hotel at 12pm and we had our last meal together at the breakfast place.  Somehow everyone wasn't satisfied with their meal today, maybe because we are getting tired of eating there all the time.  Last group picture and hugs were given before they made their way to the bus stop.

Ben wanted to try street food today.  We started from Myeongdong and made our way to Namdaemun.  Russell finally tried the egg cornbread and said that it was ok.  Grilled escargot was a little chewy.  Watermelon juice was good.  Pomegranate juice was ok.  Strawberry Mochi was good.  The bulgogi meatballs was horrible, it was uncooked inside.  Ben told the vendor and it was replaced with a different one that was also uncooked.  By the time we made to Namdaemun, we were full but Ben insisted we try Jap Chae inside a fried dough.  Ben and Ed stood in the long line and bought 3.  It was so popular that they can't make it fast enough.  It was definitely the best street food I had in Korea and it only cost 1,000 wons!

I had this bright idea that I wanted to buy a stone pot to bring back home.  But after looking at them, I  realized that it's too heavy to carry.  Abandoning the idea, we went back to the hotel to rest.

Tired of Korean food, Russell, Matty, Nicole, and I tried out a Chinese restaurant.  It was a popular restaurant and the first place that we had to wait for a table.  They specialized in Shanghai dumplings.  The dumplings were good but the service was horrible.  No one spoke english and they keep ignoring us.  I asked for hot tea but they keep on saying "No".  We were quite confused since every other table got tea.

Matty and Russell went to Baskin Robbins for ice cream.  Nicole and I went shopping.  I wanted to go back to Olive Young to get some more stuff.  There was a sale going on today and most of the stuff I got yesterday were 30% off today.  I asked a store worker if I can get a price adjustment and she had to ask about 10 people before they said yes.  An english speaking worker said that I needed to bring in yesterday's purchases.  Nicole called Russell and Emilie and 15 minutes later they both showed up at the store.  We didn't stay out too late because Carol, Emilie, and Nicole are leaving early in the morning to the airport.
