June 12, 2017 - Day #11 Strength in Numbers

June 12, 2017

Day 11 of our vacation and this is the point where the adults need a vacation from the vacation.  A kids free vacation is what I'm going to recommend for the next trip.  Anyways...enough venting.  This morning we left at 8am to head to the North Shore.  We stopped by McDonalds for bathroom breaks which only cost us $50.  We were in Haleiwa and went to Waimea Bay Beach Park.  At 10am, the parking lot was full.  After dropping off the passengers and beach gear, we circled around for awhile to find parking.  It was actually a retreat to sit in the car by myself; I was dry from the frequent pouring rain and had time to regain my sanity.  I scored a great parking spot and made my way to the group.  The teenagers didn't want to swim.  This beach is famous for it's cliff diving but no one was interested.  Ben and Vincent both sat in the cars.  The only people that swam was Mikey, Sam, Dad, and David.  We stayed until 12pm and then made our way to the food trucks in town.  The traffic was horrendous for a Monday!  We realized later that it was a Hawaiian holiday, Kamehameha Day honoring a Monarch in the 1800s.

The food trucks parking lot was just as bad.  The line to the famous Gionvanni Shrimp Truck was long.  Most of us ate at Dat Cajun Guy and had Gumbo which was actually good.  Sam practically ate the full order of Gumbo plus a side order of fried oysters by himself.  Gionvanni's shrimp wasn't as good as it used to be, we all agreed that the Kickin Crab in California was a lot better.  I was willing to take kids to Matsumoto's for shaved ice but they all declined.  We all drove home to catch Game 5 of the NBA Championship.

The Championship game started at 3pm.  I took Matty and Mikey to my villa to watch a movie on my laptop.  I was able to squeeze in a nap while the boys were watching Big Hero 6 intently.  We made it back to the main house to have dinner of Bun Thang and watch the Warriors win the Championship on home court!  Just like the Warriors, the adults needed "Strength in Numbers" to keep our kids in line.

To end our night, I took whoever wanted to go to get Froyo at a nearby place called Frost.  After many announcements that I'm leaving, Tiffanie and I left in the car with 5 boys.  While pulling out of the garage, Ben and Ethan runs out to jump into the car.  While on the street, in my side mirror, I saw Joey chasing after the car.  Final count of kids: 8.  Good thing Frost was only 1.5 miles away.  The froyo was good with Hawaiian flavors of lychee, lilikoi, mango, and pineapple,  they even have a couple options of nondairy for Sam.  He dropped his cup on the ground and was sad for a few seconds until the worker told him that it was ok and go ahead and make a replacement.  He was so happy!  When we came back home, Jillian said, "No one told me that you're going to get Froyo!"  Me, "WT...?!"
