June 16, 2017 - Day #15 Happy 9th Birthday Mikey!

June 16, 2017

My baby turned 9 today!  What better place than Aulani to celebrate Mikey's big day.  I started my day with a 6:30am yoga class on the beach which was nice and relaxing.  Mikey found his way to me shortly after class ended.  He was so excited as we planned his day.  I signed him up for Aunty's Beach House that has activities for kids his age.

Russell and Mikey changed into their swim trunks and headed to the lagoon.  At the lagoon, Mikey made a new friend, Brian, who is also a 9 year old and from Sacramento.  Throughout the day, they played together from boogie boarding to the swimming pools, lazy river and waterslides.  I had the role of butler.  I picked up sushi for lunch, brought needed supplies, and replenished their waters.

Matty did various things...Paddle boarding with Russell, swimming with Mikey, hanging out with Joey.  Joey's day didn't start until late.  He finally left the room at 1:30pm, just in time to join us for the sushi lunch.  We ate poolside while Mikey enjoyed the Pool Party with Mickey and Minnie.  Russell and I returned back to the room after dropping Mikey off at Aunty's Beach House.  We both needed a nap after all the fun in the sun.

Our dinner plans kept on changing.  Mikey couldn't decide where he wanted to eat.  He wanted to join his new friend that's having dinner at the buffet.  I reluctantly made reservations for us at 6:30pm.  It's quite costly, $49 for adults and $22 for children 9 and under.  We came down early to check out the buffet and we were not impressed.  Mikey's friend already finished dinner so he decided that he wasn't hungry anymore.  He suggested that Russell and I use this opportunity to have date night so that he and Brian can swim.  We decided to forgo the dinner and go swim as well.  It was 7pm and the lazy river and waterslides closes at 8pm.  I couldn't leave the Aulani without trying it.  I went down the waterslides twice and did one roundtrip on the lazy river.  Mikey and Brian pushed me  and Russell in the tube around.  Mikey found this opportunity to push me under every waterfall knowing how much I hate getting my face wet, he said it's payback.

Russell and I did take that date night and enjoyed dinner at Gyu-Kaku (It was the only restaurant that was open late nearby).  Although the food was ok, we had fun.  We got back to the hotel and had a long leisure walk around the resort.  At midnight, we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed the serenity.
